I grew up on making dumplings from scratch but unlike my relatives I really don't like bread dough dumpling and biscuit dough is even worse. Why? I'm not just into taste when it comes to food I'm also a texture person. So I will share my secrets, use skinless boneless chicken thigh meat instead it has fat in it that will allow you more flavorful broth and the meat melts in your mouth with no stringiness that breast can have because you want to fork tear the meat a part once it's done, not one big clump of meat this way you get meat and dumpling in every bite. Next tip is buy the No Yolk Dumpling noodle in the packs instead and cook until the noodles are wide slippery and tender Once the chicken and creamy gravy is done in the crock pot mixed in the done noodles stir and let it stay on low for about an hour. You won't believe it. Also if you want a rich southern taste, instead of two can of Cream of Chicken, make 1 Can of Cream of Chicken and 1 Can Cream of Celery. 1 Stick of bu

I made this for my family not too long ago...my two sons didn't really care for it at all. I was bummed because I thought they would love this dish. They both thought the biscuit dumplings were gross, and I agreed that they had a strange consistancy & flavor. I loved the idea another reviewer had for doing the filling in the slow cooker and then filling pie crusts & baking. Pre-made Pillsbury crusts would work great for these & you could modify the addition of veggies to suit your family's taste, which I think I may try.

I started this chicken and dumpling recipe this morning and is now finished. I'm an amateur cook. My wife, kids, and I are leaving for a while and was wondering if I should put the biscuits in now and let them cook first for later, or if we should reheat when we come back later and add the biscuits then? What would you recommend? Any Feedback? Thanks in advanced! :)

When I make this I leave out the biscuitsl. I shred the chicken with two forks, add mixed veggies, cook thirty minutes more. Then pour into deep dish pie shells. Cover with crust and bake homemade pot pie! One crockpot worth will usually fill 3 pie shells! I bake one right away and freeze the other two fillings for quick prep nights.

I remember my mother making this, this goes back so far we didn't have crockpots so she made this in a large china bowl in the oven and it was topped with a Bisquick dough, soooo good, leftovers,(if there were any) you could ladle over mashed potatoes the next day. Aaahhh the good Ol' days

This turned out really good and so easy. I didn't have cream of chicken so used mushroom but did not taste the mushroom flavor. Added just enough biscuits for the mill and can reheat and more so they are fresh and don't get mushy. My lucky son loved it.

Made this last night. It was good, but I had to turn the pot to high the last 2 hours to cook the buscuits through.
