Make sure your filling is very hot in the pie shell as that is what cooks the bottom of the meringue. Otherwise, you will get water. Seal the meringue to the edges of the pie crust or it will shrink and become a circle of meringue in the middle. Cook at lower temp and for a longer period. It can take a good 20 minutes for the meringue to cook but not be brown on top.

Nicole I don't think you did somthing wrong the lemon filling it 's not have to be cook you only have to worry on the meringue it has to be golden brown and the let it get cold for a 1 or 2 hour then refrigared if possible all nite

after baking for 10 minutes, the meringue was golden brown, but the filling was still runny, the longer it baked for the more the meringue burned but the filling still didnt cook, what did I do wrong?

This is a great recipe and I have made it many times for my family. I am going to try it again even though I won't have a large group at the table this year. I will just have to have several pieces.
