See how to make homemade tomato salsa for your Cinco de Mayo celebration. The secret to Chef John’s simple salsa? Cherry tomatoes! Because it’s early May, large tomatoes haven’t vine-ripened yet; in-season cherry tomatoes will have a flavor that’s similar to fully ripened summer tomatoes. In this video, Chef John shows you the best knife for cutting cherry tomatoes into a small dice. You’ll also discover a great technique for chopping a white onion into a fine dice and get a fun trick for slicing and dicing hot peppers without getting seeds. A little garlic, some lime juice, and lots of herbs and seasonings, and you’re ready for Cinco! One last trick: a hint of chopped fresh mint really brings out all the other flavors in this salsa. Watch the video, then get the recipe for Chef John’s Salsa Cruda.

This recipe sounds just like my Pico de Gallo except for the mint. I never thought of trying cherry tomatoes, I usually use plum tomatoes. Will have to try the cherry...Thanks for the tip Juan.

One of the better videos here, and what appears to be a good recipe. I would add cumin, but other than that, this is a winner.
