Cinco de Mayo Salsa Cruda

See how to make homemade tomato salsa for your Cinco de Mayo celebration. The secret to Chef John’s simple salsa? Cherry tomatoes! Because it’s early May, large tomatoes haven’t vine-ripened yet; in-season cherry tomatoes will have a flavor that’s similar to fully ripened summer tomatoes. In this video, Chef John shows you the best knife for cutting cherry tomatoes into a small dice. You’ll also discover a great technique for chopping a white onion into a fine dice and get a fun trick for slicing and dicing hot peppers without getting seeds. A little garlic, some lime juice, and lots of herbs and seasonings, and you’re ready to go! One last trick: a hint of chopped fresh mint really brings out all the other flavors in this salsa. Watch the video, then get the recipe for Chef John's Cinco de Mayo Salsa Cruda.

I never thought of adding mint..sounds interesting..may have to try that next time I make Pico de gallo..this recipe is similar to mine otherwise..I use habanaro and jalapeno peppers and red onion tho. and wear gloves..otherwise my hadds burn for 3 days.

One of the better videos here, and what appears to be a good recipe. I would add cumin, but other than that, this is a winner.

This is how I make mine, except I use cilantro and a little cumin.
