Frozen chicken is washed and prepped prior to freezing and selling. Using directly from frozen in a slow cooker provides no harmful effects in regards to bacteria or food poisoning. I have very rarely used fresh meat in my recipes, always frozen unless I am looking for the taste that browning provides. But this can all be subject to preference

I agree with noting the meat isn't cleaned or washed prior to placing in the slow cooker. I actually notice a lot of chefs DO NOT wash their meat before cooking. I don't get it.

The US Dept.of Agriculture has long mmaintained that it is not safe to clean chicken before cooking, because doing so splashes any bacteria all over the sink and counter. See here: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2013/08/31/216948010/dont-panic-your-questions-on-not-washing-raw-chickens

The chicken will be rendered safe through cooking.

I would definitely wash chicken. And I would try unfrozen and lower cooking time.

I tried this last weekend and it was super. Used skinless, boneless chicken breasts and left them whole to eat. Will for sure be fixing this again and may cut up meat and eat as sandwiches.
