You should always rinse rice prior to cooking. Besides cleaning off excess dirt, it removes a lot of the starch.

I make sort of a version of this. It's a one pan meal with hamburger salsa rice kidney beans and corn and diced tomatoes. Takes 20 minutes and is all basically dump and stir type cooking but for some reason there are never any leftovers ;-]
