Video: Zebra Cake

I enjoyed this video very much and have found a section of videos I am going to really enjoy watching.Yet another reason to enjoy Allrecipe.

What a great story! I especially enjoyed the part about Americans pooling and sharing their rations. Limitations make people try harder and they get us out of ruts. I think that is one of our modern issues is that we have so many choices and so few limitations we are not often forced to be innovative and sometimes we are only innovative when forced. Sometimes people make fun of Americana type cooking but I am sure much of it was born out of WarII rationing on a young and developing culture. I must admit that the ''cake'' doesn't look that appetizing to me but I am going to try it. I think I will use it as a base for my flag cake this 4th.

Great video...thank you for the backstory and the reminder that freedom isn't free. I'm thankful for previous generations who sacrificed so much for the lifestyle I enjoy.

OMG!!! this is called "icebox cake" in my family. (probably from before there were refrigerators.) we have 4 generations who have made and enjoyed this incredibly easy and decadent dessert. we make it in 2 rows and cut it diagonally. the chocolate wafer cookies are made by nabisco and sold in a single row, yellow package. they freeze well too, as you never know when you want to whip one up. i am soooo excited to see my favorite childhood birthday cake online!

There's been a lot of buzz about Zebra Cake lately, so I was happy to see this video about how and why the original Zebra Cake came to be. I was so pleased to learn much more than just how to prepare a recipe from this video and I agree with mis7up, it makes me thankful too!
