In the video she says "cut the onion in half lengthwise from the top to the root". while showing her cutting the onion from the root to the top.

Good, simple video. Alton Brown recommends lighting a candle when chopping onions as the gases that cause tears are actually wicked away by that simple candle. Been doing this for a couple years, and he is absolutely right!
