How to Make Old-Fashioned Pancakes

You’ll want stacks and stacks of these old-school cakes. In this video, Chef John shows you how to make good old-fashioned pancakes—the kind served up in classic diners. They’re remarkably simple to make. If you can sift a few common ingredients together and handle a whisk, then you’ve got this one down pat! The key is quick whisking—and Chef John will show you how it’s done. Check out the recipe for Old-Fashioned Pancakes. In the video, you’ll see just the right moment to flip them for perfect, golden-brown cakes.

I disagree about waiting five minutes. Best results we ever had was to wait at least thirty minutes with the batter in the fridge. Then re-whisk before cooking.

This and almost any pancake batter (even the ones from a box or pouch) can have a little added flavor by stirring in about 1/2 to 1 tsp. of vanilla flavoring, depending on your own taste preference.

THIS IS THE ONE!! I am not a pancake lover, but I have been converted after eating these. I have to admit, I did substitute 1 cup of oats, which I ground, for 1 cup of flour because I always try to make a healthier food for my kids. They LOVE them!! THANKS CHEF JOHN!!
