Grits are great, but I have rarely gotten them in a restaurant with breakfast that were worth eating. They are simple to cook, and not expensive. You can usually find them in the grocery store where oatmeal is. Don't get instant ones, get the quick grits or the old fashioned grits. My mother always said the secret to cooking grits is to add the grits to the salted boiling water and immediately turn it as low as you can, then stir it and stir it some more. She preferred grits cooked long and slow, don't cover them, and be sure to stir, they become creamy by stirring. Typically for me it takes about twice the recommended cooking time for quick grits, but I prefer old fashioned. Then just add cheese, butter, bacon pieces, scrambled eggs... You could add many different toppings and it can easily be lunch or supper! My granddaughter is 3 and her favorite breakfast or lunch is cheesy eggs and grits with bacon pieces. She always finishes it all!

grits...white corn (hominy) that has been soaked in lye to remove the outer layer and causes the kernel to swell. ground to tiny sand grain sized particles , this is then boiled in salted water to a thick pasty consistency and served warm usually with butter and salt and pepper or add cheese, bacon bits ,etc. Southern breakfast dish staple. Go to any good authentic southern restaurant and order breakfast,it usually automatically is on the order.
