Grits sort of looks like cream of wheat, but is ground corn. A southern dish not to be missed. Shrimp and grits is a South Carolina tradition. Definitely worth a try, I love it and will definitely try this expanded version.

grits is delicious. grits is a traditional southern staple. Most commonly a breakfast dish. Grits are good with a number of dishes like tamales and chili. they are inexpensive to cook as well.

grits...white corn (hominy) that has been soaked in lye to remove the outer layer and causes the kernel to swell. ground to tiny sand grain sized particles , this is then boiled in salted water to a thick pasty consistency and served warm usually with butter and salt and pepper or add cheese,bacon bits ,etc. Southern breakfast dish staple. Go to any good authentic southern restaurant and order breakfast,it usually automatically is on the order.
