I have a plastic microwave chip maker that I've had for a long time. The price is still on the box, so I know that I paid $3.49 for it. It's a round tray with 36 slots on the top in which you place the potato slices and actually a double dip compartment in the center (never used that before). It also can be used for tortillas, pita bread and bagels. I like your tip on using sweet potatoes and definitely will plan to give that a try.

I honestly don't mean to be negatively critical but I have a problem with all of the Allrecipes' videos. They seem disjointed and not very professional. Sorry, but I've watched two of the gadget videos in the last 10 minutes and won't be watching any others.

Yes, defunct, thanks very much. I was thinking that the "special microwave dish" could be easily replaced by whatever other microwavable platter I had on hand (like the one for bacon with drain/divets), but like your idea of parchment paper even better. And, I wanted to especially thank you for your tweak to the directions: 4 mins, rest for 1 min; and then nuke again until I see spots. Terrific!

Save yourself $$ and just use parchment paper instead, works better. I found the Mastrad did not crisp/cook the chips as well, and still had soft chips when they started to burn. Line the microwave turn table with parchment paper, place potato slices in a single layer, cook on high 4-5mins, let chips rest for 1 min, and nuke on high again until brown spots appear, remove promptly and serve.
