My whole family gets involved with the meal. I set up the time frame and menu plan. Then everyone picks one or two dishes. We all oversee the whole meal, but someone is in charge of each dish. It's great.

Some good tips - but doesn't anyone think it's a shame that women have to spend their whole day cooking? My grandma used to do this and ended up missing out on everything because she was in the kitchen and everyone else enjoying themselves in the living room.

Love the breaks for alcohol drinking, I always cook with wine and sometimes put it in the food. Gobble, Gobble.

Not really stressful, pies and salads done day ahead. Turkey in bag (recipe in bag instructions comes out perfect every time). Cooking turkey in the electric roaster frees oven. Utilize family members to help with sides -my daughter prides herself on her ability to make real mashed potatoes!

I used to do all the work and be a real grouch when dinner was finally ready. Now I buy frozen pies/bake in am. Frozen mashed potatoes (impossible to make well from scratch at 5000' altitude where I live). Into the microwave. The best fresh turkey I can find roasted in a cooking bag. Easy! Bagged fresh salad. Canned cranberry sauce. My energy goes into my pecan stuffing which I bake next to the turkey near the end. Not grumpy anymore! And time for a glass of sparkling cider!

I am a big doubting Thomas. But the comments below have a lot a merit and are very true. Especially the potatos in the crock pot. Delicious and a great time saver. By getting the pies, gravy and potatoes out of the way in advance you will be amazed how easy this day becomes. It took me 40 years to learn this. Now I can really enjoy the holidays. Nothing wrong with store bought pumpkin pie.

Too much work on the day! Make your pie ahead; make crusts and freeze a week ahead. Buy turkey wings a month in advance; roast the wings with salt/pepper. When done, add to stock pot with onions/carrots/celery/peppercorns and water to make a turkey stock and Voila! you have the basis of your gravy...don't even need turkey drippings because the roasted wings give the stock the flavor you need. When keeping potatoes warn in crockpot, add a butter on top. Dressing can also be made a day in advance.

Great video - but just line up the crockpots the night before and you can enjoy your whole day. We make all the fixings the night before, bring them out of the fridge and throw them in the crockpot - mashed potatoes, stuffing (comes out so moist in the crockpot), sweet potatoes and veggie of choice for the year. Go to kegs and eggs to watch the oldest football rivalry in the country in the morning after throwing the turkey in our oven and come home to everything ready! Only thing left is to warm the buns. Love Thanksgiving! Happy to all!

Terrific tutorial. I do some of these steps much earlier though. My vegis are cleaned/chopped/sliced at least a day ahead and snuggled in bags in the frig waiting for their use. I also make Chef John's Make ahead Turkey Gravy and it is a fabulous gravy and I don't have to fuss on turkey day. My pie crust are made and put into the pans a couple weeks ahead and frozen. I pull them out defrost and fill. I will have to add the wine step to my day cuz that is a very nice ritual I have not tried yet :)

I agree with Diana... I don't need or want that much alcohol before I sit down for a meal... I can enjoy it just as much without the alcohol. Some people do, some people don't... there's not right or wrong, just what works for you.
