I would just refer to my lumpy mashed potatoes as "rustic mashed potatoes." Voila! Problem fixed w/o any extra effort. Actually, I don't see them as a problem in the first place!

Try this, it's called 'Puree' Mash your potatoes as usual, then add 1 egg and milk,(in proportion to the amount of potatoes) beat with an electric mixer on low to med. speed. When they are light and fluffy, place in oven on 350F, bake till a crust forms and is slightly browned. Serve with a sprinkling of nutmeg on top. You can change it up by adding onions, chives, parsley, cheese, or whatever your fancy decides. DELICIOUS GRANNY!!

I like lumpy mashed potatoes!! I don't like them to have the consistency of glue. My Scottish Mum made "mealy" mashed potatoes and that's the way I make 'em. And my husband loves them. That have a really earthy flavour and a great texture.

I don't see anything wrong with lumpy mashed potatoes. I like potatoes. If there are a few lumps, you can be reasonably sure the cook peeled and cooked real potatoes, not the plastic, pasty stuff from a box. I'll take lumps anytime. In fact, when I serve mashed potatoes I like to leave them a little lumpy so the company at the table know that I am feeding them the real thing.

I wish I had known to make sure my cream and butter were warm when I prepared my first Thanksgiving meal. It took me a couple of years before I learned that one. It's a great tip, I never had lumpy mashed potatoes again after I figured that one out!
