Video: Curly-Q Grilled Sausages

These kickin’ spiral-cut grilled Italian sausages aren’t just cool-looking.

In this video, you’ll see how to make cool, curly-Q-cut Italian sausages on the grill. You’ll start with cold cooked sausages, parboiling them briefly and popping them in the fridge. Why? Because you can’t spiral-cut a limp, raw sausage. Next, you’ll skewer your cold sausage, and slice it, turning as you go to create the spiral. Watch Chef John in action! The cool, coiled shape isn’t just fun or frivolous, it’s also fully functional: the extra surface area picks up additional delicious smoky, caramelized flavors from the grill. Watch the video, then get Chef John’s recipe for Curly-Q Grilled Sausages. Try them in a sausage bun with homemade basil and garlic mayonnaise. See more Chef John videos >>

I've done this with hot dogs and loved it! But I boiled my hot dogs instead of grilling!
