Oh I love fried pickles! There's a mom & pop burger joint that we go to occasionally that serves them. There's seem to have a little spice in the batter though, maybe cayenne pepper.

I cook for a living and few suggestions on this i prefer to use a panko bread crumbs with the flour dredge; it makes for a nice crunchy skin. Becki67 these are pickles were talking about cook them as long or short as you'd like just make sure the batter on the outside isn't doughy still. Once it turns golden brown they are perfect.

I haven't tried this---but would predict that you should dry the slices before battering. And as a really old Southerner can say that I never heard of them, ever!!

I noticed the depth of oil also. I have made fried pickles before and just sliced them about 1/4" and when i could see they were golden on one side i turned them. It doesn't take long. Very good.

The video said to slice the pickles 1/4" thick, but showed slices closer to a full inch. Also, it said to remove the pickles from the hot oil when they float to the top, but showed the pickles being fried in oil that didn't cover them. I'm thinking I'd go with the thicker pickle slices and some slightly deeper oil, but curious what others' experiences are.

Has anybody tried using the dill gherkins for fried pickles? I'd like to try it, but if it doesn't work I won't waste the pickles!!!
