Ham & Red Eye Gravy

In this video, you’ll see how to make ham and red-eye gravy. You’ll use cold leftover coffee to create a tasty gravy to spoon over fried slices of ham. It’s like getting something from nothing! It may sound unusual, but there’s something about this flavor combination. Watch the video, then get the recipe for Chef John's Ham & Red Eye Gravy. When the bitter coffee hits the pan, coming into contact with the sweet-and-smoky-flavored ham fat, something delicious happens!

Ham with red eye gravy is very common in the south still, Family members made this for us one summer and this is my husbands favorite way to eat plain ol' boring ham. I often add gormet dark roast coffee to my gravies to darken and add depth to the flavor. I encourage everyone to try this at least once, you will be pleasently surprised!
