Great recipe …. instead of bread … Mix 2 cups crushed cornflakes with 1/2 cup melted butter. sprinkle on top and bake.

What about biscuit dough instead of bread and sausage patties rather than links? Eggs should be beaten first and gravy (preferably peppered) and cheese layered on top?

This sounds so good. I have another basic Breakfast Casserole, so this will be different and a nice change. It's so good to have more than one good recipe that you can alternate and enjoy. I like to make them a head and freeze them for when we out of state company.

You can us the crumbles, they are already cooked sausage and they are the right size for no cutting. I use them when I am in a hurry or too lazy to fry the sausage.

Sounds like a great 'splurge day' breakfast. I'll try it the way it says first with the exception of cutting up the cooked sausage so it saves me from needing a knife when eating. I might try it on a second time using cornbread or cornbread stuffing too instead of the bread but OMG that might fill me too much!

sounds good maybe i will try it one day will it be good with bacon instead of sausage do you think it would be good with potatoes instead of bread

I put in bread first and skipped the paprika. I beat the eggs first before adding milk, water and gravy mix. Then I added the shredded cheese. I let the breakfast sausage cool before cutting into 1 inch pieces and layering on top of mixture along with onions. I reserved a half cup of cheese for sprinkling on top for the last 10 minutes of baking. I think that the gravy/bread mixture on the bottom is more moist and tasty than if the bread were left on the top.
