Video: Homesteader Corn Bread

Try the recipe handed down through our family from our grandmother (born 1864) that had 9 children and God knows how many grandchildren and whose only claims to fame was she was the best mother, grandmother and cook in the area! This is not a sweet cornbread, and you can add sugar and eggs if you so desire, but you should try it one time according to the recipe - you will probably never deviate from it once you try it! Ingredients: 1) 1 1/2 cups yellow corn meal (we used Aunt Jemima) 2) 1 tsp baking powder (we used Calumet) 3) 1/4 cup all purpose flour (we used Gold Medal) 4) 1/4 tsp baking soda (we used Armand Hammer) 5) 1 tbls bacon grease (I know, substitute Crisco veg oil if you wish, but the taste is so much better with the bacon grease and it is proportionately so little, it will not really hurt you! Preheat cast iron skillet(8") with grease then heat in oven @ 450 degrees for 10 min. 6) 1/8 tsp salt 1 1/2 cup buttermilk (actually, I put about a cup into it iniatially, the
