This recipe is very similar to a Southern Cooking cookbook recipe my mother has used for years. The differences: use 4 cups of steamed, mashed sweet potatoes (although most people probably use yams), 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 cup brown sugar and 1 cup pecans. I typically don't use a full cup of white sugar and skip adding butter to the sweet potatoes. NEVER add marshmallows to this recipe ... unless you want to go into a diabetic coma! And stay away from the canned sweet potatoes; it makes the dish runny. This is always a hit at our house! Easy to say it's my favorite dish of the holidays!
