I do not like lasagna but this recipe was delicious! I'm already craving another batch! I followed the recipe, mostly, with only a few variations. I wanted to have a little extra sauce for spaghetti so I increased the sausage (mild Italian, not sweet Italian) to 1.15 lbs. and the ground beef to 1 lb. I also increased the tomato sauce to 24 oz. and added one more tablespoon of sugar. I couldn't find fennel in the store so I omitted that as well. I followed the advice of others and let the sauce simmer for a couple of hours, then refrigerated it over night. Also, didn't cook the noodles, just soaked it hot water for about 40 min. When layering, I separated the cheese layers from the meat with extra noodles. I don't like the ricotta to melt into the meat sauce. Cooked covered 30 min, then uncovered for another 30 min. Let it sit a bit before serving. It was amazing!
