My husband's family has enjoyed this satisfying gumbo for many years. Bold seasonings and savory sausage slices enhance the mild meat. John doesn't do much hunting anymore, but we still enjoy this Cajun dish on cool evenings.

The guys in our family like to spoon the zesty beef filling over both halves of the roll and eat it with a fork. Now that I no longer work outside of the home, I find myself in the kitchen reading recipes, cooking and baking. - Shirley Wranosky, Eagle River, Wisconsin

I'm originally from Minnesota, where wild rice grows in abundance ans is very popular in recipes. This soup has been part of our Christmas Eve menu for years. To save time, I cook the chicken and wild rice and cut up the vegetables the day before. --Virginia Montmarquet, Riverside, California

Everyone thinks this is one of my best salads because it features wild rice--a major crop in my home state of Minnesota. Cashews give a subtle nutty flavor.

I developed this vegetable-based soup from a recipe my mom made when I was a child. Its robust down-home taste brings back wonderful memories of growing up on the farm.
