I liked this so much better without the tomato sauce. I love tomato sauce just not for dipping. Pizza or spaghetti sauce would have been better. The tomato sauce just had a harsh sour/canned taste. The calzone itself was DELICIOUS! I made mine as instructed in the recipe but had to leave out olives and mushrooms for the rest. Very good, thanks!

I liked the cream cheese in the filling, but I think it could have used a little more flavor, maybe jalapenos. We did not care for the tomato sauce and will probably go with pizza sauce next time. I made my own crust but then followed the rest of this recipe as written.

These calzones live up to their name. My brothers and dad vacuumed them into non-existence in minutes. I did add a mixture of olive oil, parmesan cheese, oregano, and basil on the tops before baking. I also used a pizza crust recipe on the cite. search for Valentino's pizza crust. perfection!

I changed this recipe a bit. First, I used chicken sausage instead of ground beef. Second, I used spaghetti sauce instead of Italian seasoning & tomato sauce (I'm lazy what can I say? lol). Third, I added turkey pepperoni & a pinch of parmesan cheese to the mozzarella. Fourth, instead of cream cheese I added a spoonful of ricotta instead. And to top it off I sprinkled it with garlic salt & parsley flakes. No olives because I didn't have any. The family loved it!

I made two versions of this. The first time as written, the second time w/ the following swaps: Italian Sausage; left out the onion, bell pepper, an and garlic; used a fire roasted tomato sauce w/ cabernet sauvignon; swapped in ricotta cheese; used a mixed combo of mozzarella, and provolone; left out the ripe olives and mushrooms; added in fire roasted bell peppers. Admittedly the first time around (per recipe) was good 4 stars) but the second time w/ the changes made was phenomenal. I brushed the tops of the calzones w/ oil, sprinkled on some italian herbs & parmesan cheese. It's important that you remove as much liquid as possible from the meat & tomato sauce mixture, otherwise the dough won't hold it. I found using provolone cheese slices on the bottom of the dough, then the meat sauce and ending w/ cheese on top, helped about the sauce leaking through. Thanks for the recipe :)

I made a few changes but this was an amazing meal! I removed olives and mushrooms and cream cheese. I used two cans of pizza crust. I used Marinara sauce instead of tomato sauce. When I cooked the hamburger i did use italian seasoning, green pepper, onion, and garlic. I also put some worchestershire sauce in the hamburger. I put about 1/2 a cup of the marinara sauce into the hamburger once it was finished cooking. I made my squres and then put a layer of pepperoni and sprinkled a little cheese. I used Italian 5 cheese. I then added the hamburger mix and more cheese. I then made the triangles as described in the original recipe. I sprinkle some cheese on the top after it has been cooking about ten minutes and then use the remaining sauce to pour over the top. I also top it off with some fresh parmasean cheese.

Loved these, I had tried to make them before using homemade dough and they were horrible. Using the refrigerated pizza crust was so easy!
