I got this recipe from my husband's family in Virginia, they call it "Williamsburg Bread". It is pretty much the exact same thing, minus the honey. I think it would be way too sweet with honey on top. It is very sweet and rich as is.
I also bake the bottom crust first, without the filling and all, until it is lightly browned, which keeps it from getting soggy. I brush the top crust with melted butter and then sprinkle with cinnamon and white sugar, generously, but not too much.
My whole family loves this, it's always gone in no time. I like it best the next day, after a night in the fridge in a plastic container.
