Original recipe makes 2 fruit plates Change Servings

1 pear
4 raisins
1 walnut half, broken in half lengthwise

4 whole dried apricots
1 sweet eating apple, cored and cut into thin wedges
1 (24 ounce) jar grapefruit sections, well drained

Directions

Slice the pear in half lengthwise, core, remove the stem, and set each half on a plate with the cut side down. This is the body of the turkey. Cut 2 raisins in half to make 4 eyes, and set the eyes onto the narrower part of the pear. Cut a small slice from one end of the 2 remaining raisins, and stick a raisin below the eyes to make beaks. Press a broken piece of walnut, bumpy side up, into each pear below the beaks to make wattles.
Trim the dried apricots into 4 feet with 3 fat toes, and place two feet at the bottom of each pear. Arrange apple wedges alternating with grapefruit sections in a fan shape around the top of the turkey, for feathers.

I noticed in the editing process that the staff listed mandarin oranges to be used for the feathers. They will work, but for a good variation of color and larger size, I used grapefruit and orange segments! And for the walnut wattle, it needs to be smooth side DOWN, bumpy side up! Enjoy

What a great dessert for my dinner party! Easy to make and delicious. When I put them out for dessert everyone raved! I made a small change by using grapefruit slices instead of manderin oranges. The size was more in keeping with the apple and apricot slices. This recipe is a KEEPER!!!

This is such a cute idea! We made this last thanksgiving and the kids had a great time with it and ate their fruit turkeys while waiting for dinner to be ready. I prepared all the pieces, made one for them to use as reference and let them have fun! The only things I changed were that I used fresh clementines instead of grapefruit sections and that I used pecans instead of walnuts because that is what I had on hand.
