I made this recipe as stated with the exception of the pimentos. My husband is not a fan. I think the flavor was good and nice to go with the heartier fall and winter meals. I would not consider it a pilaf though - it is heavier like a casserole. The problem we had with it was it was way too salty for our taste. I would try it once more, but, omitting the additional salt. Maybe it was the sausage we used, but, I think you would get plenty of salt from the sausage.

Loved it. I like to improvise and used 1 lb ground pork, omitted the pimientos and used sage since I was out of poultry seasoning. I think, next time, I will double the bread crumbs and butter but it was yummy
