What's great about this recipe is that it gives you a base to work off. I used a ton (maybe 15?) of apples from my apple tree, peeled, cored and sliced with about 1 c. water, 1/2 c. brown sugar and spices to taste (cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamon) and popped it in my slow cooker on low for about 4 hours. Then I mashed it with my potato masher. I will totally be making this again! It's a great recipe with lots of room for alterations and it seems quite forgiving. I had no idea applesauce was this easy to make until I read this!

Loved this recipe! One question for those of you who made a large amount... how long did your applesauce last in the fridge?

Oh. My. DELICIOUS!!! Another reviewer said she couldn't understand why she ever bought jarred applesauce from the store and I am thinking the exact same thing. I went apple picking and came back with more than I knew what to do with so I decided to try this recipe. I finished my first batch about an hour ago. I smelled it through the house first- amazing. Than I tasted it- unbelievable! I shoved my used saucepan in the sink, pulled out a bigger one and my next (doubled) batch is on the stove right now. I made mine with Courtland apples and followed the recipe to a T. Wonderful recipe! This will be a staple every autumn, and a treat year round! Thanks!

Simple and delicious! Don't let the scant amount of cinnamon fool you. It's plenty! A fall tradition for my daughter and me.

I love this recipe. It is easy, fast and can be done on the stovetop. Cant get better than that for me. And I love the fact that I can double or triple the recipe and doesnt have to change any measurements. It comes out perfect. This year I had way too many apples from our apple picking adventure, so I made six jars of this applesauce and canned it. I used all kinds of apples, even mixed a few varities for one batch. It still came out good. So far we ate two jars and it seems to can well. Thank you for a wonderful recipe.

The applesauce was very good, however, my wife and I agreed that the recipe results in it being too sweet. The next time we will try it with 1/4 to 1/3 less sugar to see if that helps. Otherwise it was very simple.

Great recipe, but WAY too sweet. I cut the sugar in half and used just 2 shakes of cinnamon and it was much better. I used half pears and half braeburns the first time and all McIntosh the second time.

This was delicious! I doubled the recipe. I would recommend using only 1/2c of water (or 1c if you double it). It was a little runny, so I poured a little of the water out before I put the sauce into containers. I also added a pinch of nutmeg for a little more flavor. :)

This is such a simple recipe, and that's why I like it more than the others. Because I usually have applesauce with some form of bread - I cut down the sugar to half. If you want thicker applesauce then cut down on the water, if you want it runny add more.
