This recipe really works although it does need salt. I questioned the water as well but decided to go with it as directed. It was not rubbery and I am eating too much of it! I only gave it 4 stars because I've had better brownies although this is very close.

It's a good thing I know how to cook!!! I received this as a Christmas present, made it this evening. I stirred everything together and thought my AUNT had forgot the WATER! Yes, you MUST add WATER, sooo glad I bake regularly lol this would have been a disaster. I was suprised when I looked it up on here after cookoing to find they left the WATER out also... ADD WATER!! Also, my aunt must have used self-rising flour b/c they turned out perfectly AFTER I added water. LOL

This recipes is missing the baking powder and salt needed to make it rise. Otherwise, I think it would make a pretty and tasty gift.

I have been using this recipe to give as gifts for several years. It appeared in a Taste of Home magazine 4 - 5 years ago. I sell real estate part time, and I like to give this as a thank you gift to clients. I use the pestel from my mortar bowl to pack down the ingredients tight, too.

There aren't enough liquid ingredients in this recipe... it turned out way to firm and rubbery. Thumbs down to this recipe!

I have used this recipe for cake walks and everyone just loves them because they can decide when to make the brownies, instead of ending up with a lot of cakes to eat all at once. Just jazz up the jar with ribbons suited for the holiday or function and watch people enter into the walks for this nifty little gem.
