Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  2. Combine confectioner's sugar, evaporated milk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract in a small bowl.
  3. Beat butter and white sugar with an electric mixer in a large bowl until smooth. Mix in egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a small bowl. Gradually add flour mixture to creamed mixture, mixing well. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on prepared baking sheet; make an indentation with finger in center of each cookie.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes. Fill depressions with jam and continue to bake until lightly browned, 10 to 15 minutes longer. Cool for 2 minutes, then remove to wire racks. Drizzle confectioner's sugar glaze mixture over warm cookies; cool completely.

These were tasty! Not sure where they got their name, as they look nothing like ribbons, but still a good cookie. Subbed blackberry jam because of a friend's preference, but I think they would have been even better with raspberry preserves. I had to add an additional Tbsp of evaporated milk to the glaze to make it thin enough to drizzle. I think this would be an excellent recipe adapted with lemon flavoring in the cookie and blueberry preserves for the filling!

Yummy! I followed the recipe to the letter except that we didn't have raspberry jam so I substituted what we had... orange marmalade. Also, our oven is overly hot so I baked for 8 minutes, filled the cookies, and then finished off with another 5 minutes of baking. The cookies came out perfectly and the marmalade filling was delicious! The yield was 3 dozen and even though there's only my wife and myself here they're already half gone one hour later! Like I said... YUMMY! Thanks for sharing!
