Not exactly a gumdrop consistency, more like a really firm jiggler. The flavor is good, but a bit sweet. I'm interested to try with less sugar and sugar free jello. Overall very quick, and would be great for a party. Don't be afraid to mix jello flavors with different juices, blackberry juice and strawberry jello was very good.
The flavor of these little bites was just fine, but I was not so impressed with the texture. I hoped for a texture like something closer to lemon bars, but these are more like hard Jello (duh). It's also a hassle if you have a big meal with a lot of dishes going to stop and sugar the outside of these little dudes, but necessary. If you sugar them ahead of time, the sugar will not be as visible and as such, the little dudes will look naked. Not good, especially for the little dudes.
These are so fun and pretty tasty to boot! I used apple juice instead of pomegranate (too expensive) and I use cherry and orange JELL-O gelatins. Perhaps adding a fruit puree would make it more like a gummy.
We like the flavor in these, but like other reviewers, we are a tad disappointed in the texture. Despite our childlike tendencies with other things, my husband and I aren't too picky about jello and needing it to be firm so we can play with it. We are okay with the normal texture and just like to eat it. Therefore, it's a bit too firm for us--and it was really hard to cut. I got a workout there! . . .I liked them with and without sugar, but hubs did not like them dipped in sugar at all--didn't like the texture, I guess. He did like them without the sugar. For all that, though, we loved the flavor, so I think I'm going to just try half pomegranate juice and half hot water next time for a normal jello. Thanks for the recipe!
Everyone loved these for Easter. I used different ingredients with the basic recipe and they came out great! I tried blueberry cranberry juice with both orange and strawberry flavored jello. Very versitile recipe.
Yummy! My kids loved them.
