Directions

  1. Heat oven to 375 F. Remove wrappers from chocolate pieces.
  2. Beat shortening and peanut butter in large bowl until well blended. Add 1/3 cup granulated sugar and brown sugar; beat until light and fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into peanut butter mixture.
  3. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately press a chocolate piece into center of each cookie; cookie will crack around edges. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.

I have had this recipe for years and they are great. The only thing is if you over bake the cookies they will get really crunchy. But they are yummy and a real kid pleaser.

A classic!! These are so much fun for kids to make and it's such a crowd pleaser. I usually bake the cookies half way through and then place the chocolate kiss in the center. I place the cookies back in the oven for the last 2-3 minutes and the "kiss" stays in place. These are great ideas for get toghether and school/office functions.

I took this to a holiday cookie exchange: big hit! This was easy and even fun to make, and they look great too. I would recommend the Reese's brand peanut butter: it actually seemed to have less fat & sugar than most of the other brands.

Good cookies although I was looking for more peanut butter flavor to balance the chocolate.
