Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Additional sugar

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream shortening, molasses and egg. Combine dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture. Roll into 1-in. balls; roll in sugar. Place on greased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a flat-bottomed glass. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes (do not overbake).
