OK, I really liked this. First of all, it was just plain fun to throw dough on the grill. As a freshly minted vegan guy who loves his outdoor cooking I was excited to find this naan recipe. It never occured to me that I could make naan without the tandori oven.
IMPORTANT: In step 1, the directions omit adding sugar to the water to proof the yeast. If you're not familiar with breadmaking, look up how to proof yeast before attempting this recipe.
I used freshly ground whole wheat with added gluten. I also used corn starch + water in place of the egg and soy milk. I know, it sounds like I made a different recipe. The Naan was denser than it would have been otherwise, but still fairly fluffy (the added gluten helped, I think) and really tasty.
I served it topped with freshly made hummus, diced tomato, and grilled summer squash. It was a filliing and healthy meal. I was quite pleased with myself. :-) ...and I got to slap dough on the grill like I knew what I was doing.
