My Mom's Baja Burger

Read Reviews (5)

"This isn't your average burger. It's a burger made Baja-style! No grill? No worries! This burger is made in a skillet and is easy to make! My mom made this when we were young. It's a burger creation made with corn chips and spices served up on French bread."

Directions

  1. Mix the ground beef and crushed corn chips; form into 8 oblong patties; season with salt and pepper. In a small bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, onion, garlic salt, and chili powder.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Cook the patties in the hot skillet 4 to 5 minutes; flip and cook an additional 4 minutes. Pour the tomato sauce mixture into the skillet as the burgers finish cooking; simmer for another 4 to 5 minutes. Top each burger with Cheddar cheese and allow to melt. Awesome! I crumbled the Fritos as suggested, so it wasn't soggy. It was defitiley a different way to prepare a burger. Interesting blend of flavors.

I thought they were tasty! I crumbled my fritos so they didn't get soggy. Great taste and something different!

Mistake in "Ingredients": So sorry, I accidentally wrote "browned ground beef" in the ingredients section. The patties are to be formed with "raw" ground beef and cornchips---not browned.

I added onions into the meat mixture. The texture was nice.. and I liked the flavor. I served this on homemade rolls.

My mom used to make this recipe when we were growing up also. I love it. I do alter it a little bit though. I add green olives and slowly simmmer the burgers with the tomato sauce. Delicious!
