This was wonderful. I did use the bacon and white wine vinegar instead of red. I also had to make it gluten free so used cornstarch instead of flour, but turned out amazing. Thank you Pioneergirl and all you reviewers.

This is the best clam chowder I have made, and I've made plenty, being from the Bay Area! I did sauté the bacon & use the drippings, which added much flavor, and served the bacon bits on top. Delicious! Thanks Pioneer girl!

Yum! I did use bacon fat instead of butter, which gave it an oomph and used a tsp of liquid smoke. Good recipe =) thanks!!

I cooked 6 slices of bacon frist then removed the bacon and added my veggies and let them cook 8 minutes then added clam juice and some water let them finished cooking before combining all the rest, this was the clam chowder I have ever made. Awesome soup.

Good, basic recipe except for the red wine vinegar. I used an 8 oz. bottle of clam juice instead of water to give it a bit of "tang". I would not add vinegar to this! Also, I substituted corn for the carrots but this is just my preference.

Excellent did add some changes: 5 cans of clams 4 chopped 1 whole. 1 teasp. Bay Seasoning 2 cloves of garlic 1 teasp. thyme and used 1 c butter to 1 c flour ratio and used 2 percent milk 1 quart plus 1 cup added Trader Joes roasted corn 1/2 cup and a dash of tabasco no vinegar!

Made this and enjoyed it. I did add more whole baby clams and some bacon. Next time I will use 1cup of potatoes instead of 2cups. Seemed like potato soup with clams instead of clam soup with potatoes.

I did not care for this recipe. For my taste, this is not what I have in mind when I want clam chowder. I think the vinegar was the problem. Thanks anyway.
