Ingredients

  • 1 pound dried great Northern beans
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 3 small onions, chopped

Directions

  1. Place beans and salt in a saucepan; cover with water. Bring to a boil; boil for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat; cover and let stand for 1 hour.
  2. Drain, discarding liquid, and return beans to pan. Cover with fresh water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 hour or until beans are tender.
  3. Drain, reserving liquid. Combine beans, 1 cup liquid and remaining ingredients in a greased 2-1/2-qt. baking dish. Cover and bake at 350 degrees F for 1-1/4 hours or until beans are tender, stirring occasionally (add additional reserved liquid if needed).
