Recipe by

"Whether you're on a diet or just like to eat Italian cooking with flavor, this is the perfect choice for you. In Italy it is usually served after an entree, but can also be eaten as a main dish with a tossed salad."

Directions

  1. Place the potatoes into a large pot and cover with salted water. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain. Cover with cold water and allow to sit until cool, draining and replacing the cold water as needed. Peel and slice the potatoes thinly.
  2. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  3. Grease a casserole dish with the olive oil. Line the casserole dish with an even layer of potato slices; top with a layer of sardine fillets. Scatter the diced tomatoes over the sardines. Sprinkle the garlic, basil, and bread crumbs over the tomatoes.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until heated through, about 20 minutes.

I made this for supper last night and it was amazing!! Super yummy and easy to prepare. I used lemon and cracked pepper sardines and I added a layer of sauerkraut as well just because I believe that sardines and sauerkraut are soul mates. I also added some sliced onions with the potato layer.

This recipe was delicious. I layered sauted mushrooms and onions with garlic bread on the side.

I dont know what I did wrong, but it was not that good. I followed the directions all the way. I think my family just likes things with a different flavor. I made mediterranean fish to go along with this casserole. The fish was great! but this not so good.

Tried it as written and while I like all the ingredients together they didn't work. Perhaps with the sauerkraut it would be okay as it seems like it needs something to bind it all together but as is, it wasn't awful but it wasn't good.
