The Lemon Slices should ONLY be used for decoration. The white pith in lemon is EXTREMELY BITTER, and that bitterness will be transferred to ANY sauce you use it in. For lemony flavor, you need to add lemon juice and lemon zest to flavor the dish. That way you are not adding the bitter pith. For decoration at the very end, add lemon slices without cooking them with the sauce. If you want the lemon slices to look cooked... cook them separately in another pan or grill them before adding to the finished sauce.
