DURING my teen years, I lived on my aunt's farm in Illinois. This was one of her delicious dishes, and one of many I enjoyed. I'm so happy I got the recipe and later made it my own family's favorite. It's a wonderful side dish to complement any meat entree. -Phyllis Jean Sheeley, Altoona, Illinois

I found the basic potato pie recipe in a cookbook and added the sweet onions, for which our area is famous. I've used this recipe for brunches and as a side dish for a main meal.

Christmas at out house is a celebration of tradition. No matter how many guests we might have, our morning brunch has not varied for years. It's always this festive sausage pie served with stollen and fruit salad.

I've been making this pie for a few years now. I like to vary the vegetables and meat depending on what I have on hand. I've made it with leftover turkey, sausage and lamb roast. In summer, it's a perfect brunch meal with a salad; in winter, add a loaf of homemade bread for a great dinner.

This pie is practically a meal in itself. I usually put a green salad and crusty French rolls on the table with it.

Here in northwest Missouri, we have an abundance of zucchini, peppers, onions and tomatoes. So I make this attractive garden recipe a lot, and that pleases my hungry family!
