Original Recipe Yield 18 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
  • 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork or turkey
  • SAUCE:
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the first six ingredients. Crumble meat over mixture; mix well. Shape into 1-1/2-in. balls. Place in a greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees F for 35-40 minutes or until no longer pink.
  2. Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, combine sauce ingredients. Bring to a boil, stirring often. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes. Add meatballs; stir gently to coat.
