I'm sure this pudding is normally delicious... but it definitely doesn't take well to using Rice Milk instead of regular milk and Xylitol instead of sugar... So any allergy people out there that are like me, don't bother substituting!

I gave it a four star because the ingredients was good. Also, I did not want to use eggs cause I tend to make a mess of recipes that ask for it. I wanted something easy and this was very easy but if your not mixing all the time you do get lumply. I did use less of the sugar, more of the butter and instead of cornstarch I used flour. Just make sure to mix all the dry stuff and then add the milk in slowly till you have the lumps out. I did add the butter when cooking and had no problems. Keep mixing all the time. Came out great. I used it hot over some fried bananas with fresh strawberries like a vanilla sauce. I will be making it again and next time I'm going to add chocolate cocoa for some chocolate pudding. Also it took less time to cook for me. Good luck and those who have tried I would say try again.

I would definitely give this 5 stars for ease and taste, but I gave it 4 because I didn't follow the directions exactly. I, like others, whisked all the dry ingredients together before adding the milk, and then turned on the heat. I've never been successful with cornstarch and hot liquid, so I knew I should mix it with the cold milk. Otherwise, great basic, simple, tasty, comfort-food. Will definitely make again and keep as my stand-by homemade vanilla pudding.

This is perfect to pour over banana pudding.Very easy and does not over power the taste of the vanilla wafers and banana's.

I have never liked store bought instant vanilla pudding - But this does not compare! Is was very good - I took the advice of others and did all the dry ingredients 1st plus used less sugar, added some cinnamon and nutmeg and it came out surprisingly good (considering I don't usually eat vanilla pudding! lol)

My grandson Anthony and I were preparing to make Grandpa a bowl of banana pudding, and found we didn't have our usual box of vanilla pudding in the cabinet. So we got brave and decided to make the pudding from scratch and used this recipe. Anthony and I agree that this pudding should get 5 stars, it is easy and tasty! We used a wire wisk for stirring and got no lumps! (Grandpa says he would give it 6 stars if he could!)

The trick to no lumps is: 1. Sift all dry ingredients 2. When the milk is heated, all about half to the bowl with dry ingredients and stir. 3. Add everything back to the pan and finish. 4. Chill, and you end up with silky, rich, tastes and texture of heaven.

Great recipe, very simple. I have never ever made pudding before not even from a box. I followed the recipe as described but with some minor changes. I used 1C of milk and 1C of heavy whipping cream and I dissolved the sugar and cornstarch as much as I could in a cup of cold milk first. Will definitely make again. Thank you
