candied cherries, halved
dates, pitted and chopped
I found that with that many dates, that was the dominant flavor. Also, the bottom of the cookies got too brown before the cookie was done. I don't know if lowering the temperature and baking longer would help.
I left out the dates because I thought the cookies might be too sweet. My hubby tried them and loved them! I made them for a Christmas cookie exchange and had to make another batch just for him! Mine seemed to want to brown around the edges before baking throughout the middle, so be very careful not to burn! Great cookies
This is the best fruit cookie Ive ever tasted! And my mother in law has requested I be the official baker of them for she has tried three times and hasn't got them the way I first did just by following Valorie's recipe. Yeah!!! Score one for the Daughter in Law! (plus they are nice alternative to Chocolate and Peppermints around the holidays)Holiday Fruit Drops have now become our official "Party" Cookie. yum, yum.
These cookies are wonderful. Have been making them a couple of years. Always get asked to make more and more.
