Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Beat butter and shortening in large bowl until well blended. Add brown sugar and granulated sugar; beat thoroughly. Add egg and vanilla, beating until well blended. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into butter mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if desired. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheet.
  3. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.

The proportions seem to be off in this recipe. There's only 1 1/4 c flour but you use an entire bag of chips. When we bite into these all we can taste are the chips, no "cookie". The recipe for Hershey's CLASSIC Special Dark Choc Chip Cookies on the bag is entirely different from this one. I love dark chocolate and had high hopes for this recipe. Next time I'll either double the dough part of this recipe or try the recipe on the bag.

Love the deep rich taste of these chocolate chip cookies...would make them again, try it with Mexican Vanilla if you have some.

I agree with another reviewer, there isn't much "cookie" to this recipe. Chewy, but I would like more cookie part and less chips.

These were terrific. but how can you go wrong with dark chocolate

It's good, but not spectacular. Best when they are still warm, but once cooled down, mmmm just average.
