I added greeen enchalada sauce to the burritos and it made it OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!! I love matching burritos with heart healthy!!! I would reccomend this to anyone up to and including my worst enemy.
I'm sure this tastes fine as it is just rice, cheese, chicken and broccoli, but the nutritional facts are far from heart healthy. I think this recipe has a major problem with portion control with 763 calories, 865mg of sodium, 119mg of cholesterol and 25g of fat per serving. I'd recommend using a smaller, whole wheat tortilla, less cheese, more broccoli and rice. Even two cups of chicken for four burritos is a lot.
This is a very easy recipe but it just needs to be scaled back. Eating one of these burrito's will bring you over your daily recommended amount of protein, a third of a days worth of fat, half a day of cholesterol and a little under half a days recommendation of sodium.
Where as one of these won't kill you, depending on how conscious you are of what you're eating, you may eat half a days worth of food in one sitting.
So good and easy! Used whole wheat wraps, steamed brocolli, whole grain rice and a ready made chicken! Added some teryaki sauce and melted cheese over the whole thing, husband and I loved these.
Added Fortners Blend 37 for additional flavor, otherwise kinda bland.
A real hit in our house. May be bland for some - you may consider adding salsa for a little kick. I loved that it was healthy and delicious!
I did make a few changes, just because I had stuff in the frig! I added 2/3 cup queso dip, 1/2 c sour cream, 1/2 c salsa and 1/2 c shredded cheddar cheese to the chicken and mixed it up. Then, layered as directed. I also warmed the filled burritos for 1 min in the micro to heat through, topped with salsa and sour cream. Delicious! I think this recipe would still be heart healthy because I REALLY cut back the cheddar cheese. My hubby added hot sauce to his before rolling up!
Try Salsa Con Queso (cheese dip) instead of cheddar to spice it up a little.
Wow! This burrito is fantastic! You wouldn't even know it's healthy and low fat.
