Hard Candy Peppermint Twists Recipe Reviews - Allrecipes.com (Pg. 1)
Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2010
This is the first time I have ever commented on a recipe on here before and my first attempt at making candy too-- these were FANTASTIC! I halved the recipe but used a whole teaspoon of peppermint extract (and left out the food coloring) but kept everything else the same. The directions were clear and easy to follow. I didn't bother forming the candy into twists, just let it cool in the pan for about five minutes and broke it into squares before it got too hard. I used a small craft paintbrush (!) dipped in water to wash down the sugar that crystallized on the sides of the pot. Thank you so much for such a great recipe!!

I consider myself pretty skilled in the kitchen, but not a candy maker. These were difficult and did not turn out right for me. I didn't even want to try making them into twists. They stuck to my pan and just weren't very good at all. I don't know if I'll attempt this one again.

These were harder to make than i thought. I've made them a few times. Each time I either left it to cool for to long and could not twist it or didn't leave it for long enough and burnt myself. But in the end was Great.

My first attempt at this recipe resulted in a caramelized, stinky, burnt mess. The second time I left the cover off so that I could keep an eye on the candy thermometer. When I poured the candy into the pans I think I may have done so too thickly(?) as the candy was very saturated and mushy- it didn't harden at all and was very chewy. I was able to make 6-8 twists out of one pan of candy.. and those tasted and looked amazing. I will try this again sometime maybe using cookie sheets instead of the baking pans.

This is good candy! This is the first recipe I have tried, it was easy, its just letting it set thats the hard bit! I made it for my brother for Christmas prezzy. I kinda altered the recipe a little, I blueberry flavor in instead, it was fab!
