Directions

  1. Heat brown sugar, cream, butter, and salt in a heavy saucepan over medium heat until butter melts, about 5 minutes; remove from heat. Mix confectioner's sugar, maple extract, and vanilla extract into the sugar mixture.
  2. Grease an 8-inch square cake pan. Pour sugar mixture into the prepared pan. Refrigerate until set, about 1 hour.

I wasn't very impressed with this. Even after chilling in freezing temperatures outside, once I brought it in to sit for a few hours it was warm again, which is expected, but did not stay as firm as it should have. It was almost as though it could have been a spread on toast. The texture was too heavy and buttery when we tried the square. It was just okay, not really what I was looking for.
