  1. Line a 9 by 13-inch baking pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a small skillet, toast the almonds over medium heat, stirring occasionally to promote even cooking, just until golden, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  3. In the top of a double boiler or in a heatproof bowl over barely simmering water, melt the chocolate chips and shortening, stirring until smooth. Remove from the heat and stir in 1/4 cup of the toasted nuts and 1/2 cup of the cranberries. Spread the mixture in the prepared pan, and sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup nuts and 1/2 cup cranberries. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or until solid. Break into small pieces to serve.

I made a ton of bark this year (various kinds) and this was one of our favorites by far! The only comments I have: I substituted dried cherries (chopped) for the cranberries since that's what I had on hand (FANTASTIC!!) both times I made it. Also, the second time, I made it with dark chocolate and added 1 tsp of orange peel to the melted chocolate as well for a subtle orangy flavor. They were both fall-off-your-seat delicious! :)

Not impressed. I used fresh cranberries, since the recipe did not say to used dried (though dried may have worked better). The result was sloppy-looking and the taste was kind of strange. Won't be making again.

These were amazing. I doubted whether the cranberries were supposed to be fresh or dried, so I made a batch of each. I dare you to try this with fresh cranberries - they give it a tangy-sweet pop-crunch when you bite into them and it is truly unbelievable. I gave tins of this, peppermint bark, and peanut brittle to several people for Christmas, and this was the definite winner.

I changed this recipe a lot but it was still great. I mixed dark and milk chocolate chips (1/2 and 1/2) since I love dark chocolate. I also used dried cherries instead of cranberries. The bark came out awesome and was a huge hit. Will definitely use again.

Heavenly. I used 1 cup milk and 1 cup semi-sweet chips. The crunch of the almonds and the chewiness of the tart cranberries make this some of the best candy. It reminds me of the Fruit and Nut candy bars at the store. Very rich, but I still couldn't resist drizzling just a little white chocolate over the top just for looks. I was in need of a very quick, easy gift, and this was perfect. I will say, however, that when I took it out of the fridge after 1.5 hours, it was still a little soft in the middle. Probably best made hours in advance of consumption.

I love fresh cranberry garlands on a Christmas tree. I bought several bags of cranberries this year, but ran out of time to string most of them. What to do with the extra? I found this recipe and tried it on New Years Day. Big hit with the family for the combination of sweet, sour, and crunchy. I made one portion cranberry only for my daughter who doesn't like nuts, one section almonds only for my son who doesn't like cranberries, and the rest just like the recipe said! It inspires me to make more bark variations.
