3rd time making it - I love this pie! I add 1/2 tsp of cloves as well. It's been a big hit!
I changed up the fruit in this pie a little bit by cutting the apples back to three cups and adding two cups of pears. I have made this pie three times in the last month and it has been a big hit at all the family holiday functions.
Everyone loved this pie! I'd definitely make it again! I wasn't paying close enough attention to the directions at first and accidentally added all of the cornstarch to the cranberries. Oops! This made stirring difficult. When I realized my mistake, I added a couple tablespoons of water back into the sauce and sprinkled a teaspoon or two of cornstarch onto the apples. I also added some allspice, nutmeg, and cloves to the apples. It turned out a definite winner. I'm definitely making this next year, too.
This pie is absolutely delicious. It is not too sweet which is exactly how I like pie to be. I substituted apple pie spice for the cinammon and nutmeg and it was perfect. The Pillsbury Pie crust is almost as good as homemade and much easier to use. A perfect pie for the holidays!
