This is a very good recipe to use as a guideline to tweak to one's personal tastes. Some other recipes are very heavy on molasses which turns a lot of people off, and I like to please crowds while also sticking to traditional tastes, and I found this recipe to be a very happy medium. I also changed the spices a bit like many other reviewers to suit my personal tastes by doubling the cinnamon and halving the cloves as I think an entire teaspoon of cloves would leave a bad aftertaste--reminds me of the days when I used to smoke clove cigarettes. Yuck. Also, I like my gingerbread chewy so I added another egg yolk, and I rolled them out between 2 pieces of parchment, therefore using almost no additional flour. The results are phenomenal I will absolutely be making these again and probably doubling the recipe next time.
