Served this tonight. I used crackers instead of bread crumbs. I also found a tiny bit of chili powder (the kind in an envelope for making chili, not regular chili powder)...it was probably about a teaspoon and I threw it in with the ground beef mixture. I didn't salt much because I figured between the saltine crackers and the chili seasoning, it was ok. The only mustard I had was Dijon so used that. I browned the onions in a little bit of butter as many described and also sauteed some green peppers but forgot to put them into the ground beef mixture, so I just added them to the top after spreading on the topping. It looked pretty. I served it with rice. My husband liked it so much he had two servings and he rarely does that.
